Matatu Culture (Matwana)

I got to work on this illustration last year based on Kenya's matatu (public transport buses and vans) culture for "Matwana" an organization that seeks to preserve and document the vibrant culture.

I have always been fascinated and inspired by the Matatu culture in Kenya. The crisp alpine music with just enough bass, the elaborate graffiti expressed with a cocktail of bright vivid colors, and how each matatu is unique both in features and experience. It is a unique experience that I wanted to capture and celebrate through art.
